Cell phone thief captured

June 29, 2017

For immediate release

LILBURN -- A series of armed robberies ended in Lilburn on Wednesday, after police arrested a man who confessed to stealing iPhones and iPads in Lilburn and Duluth.

On June 28 at 10 a.m., an armed man reportedly entered the AT&T store at 4024 Lawrenceville Highway, forced an employee to open the safe, and took approximately eight iPhones and nine iPads. When the suspect left the building through the emergency exit, apparently to get another bag for more items, the employee locked all the doors and called 911.

Thanks to a GPS tracking device in one of the stolen phones, the suspect was captured an hour later by the Georgia State Patrol on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Doraville. Samuel P. Lawrence, 21, of Norcross was arrested and charged with armed robbery. He was also charged with several other offenses stemming from the high-speed traffic chase on which he led police.

Police found the stolen AT&T merchandise in his car. Police say he confessed to the Lilburn robbery as well as two armed robberies in Duluth, also involving iPhones and iPads.
