Mayor-elect Johnny Crist, incumbent Scott Batterton (Post 2) and newcomer Christina van Maanen (Post 1) were sworn in by City Attorney Dick Carothers during last night’s City Council meeting, our first of the year.

In other action, the Council, by unanimous 4-0 votes:

  • Approved Resolution No. 2024-01, a resolution imposing a three-month moratorium barring the acceptance of applications for new buildings, additions and new developments on residentially zoned parcels within the “downtown character area,” namely Old Town. The moratorium doesn’t apply to commercial properties. The City will work with the Lilburn Community Improvement District and a consultant to draft guidelines.
  • Tabled Ordinance No. 2023-619, an ordinance to amend the Lilburn city code that regulates and licenses alcoholic beverages to include wine shops.
  • Approved mayoral and council appointments for city attorney, city legal organ, municipal judges, solicitors as well as members to all commissions and boards.
