The Lilburn Planning Commission has recommended approval of a proposed development for businesses and residences on the southwest corner of Main Street and Lawrenceville Highway (US 29). The project would be located across the street from the future City Hall/Library. City Council will hold a public hearing and consider final approval of the permit on Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, 76 Main St.
Nacoochee Corporation’s plans show businesses fronting Lawrenceville Highway and Main Street, and a multi-story residential building fronting Church Street and Main Street. A parking deck would be constructed in the center of the square with the same design elements of the businesses and homes.
What will the buildings look like?
The developer’s application includes renderings of what the buildings might look like. The city requires new buildings within the Lawrenceville Highway Corridor Overlay District to meet certain architectural requirements. These requirements include construction using brick, stone, glass and textured concrete. The city’s planning department reviews all plans before building permits are issued.
What kind of housing is proposed?
The developer proposes 250 one- and two-bedroom units in a $25-million, 292,000 square-foot, three-story building. (The proposed Special Use Permit would allow up to 325 units.) The rental homes are designed with singles and couples in mind, offering upscale living without the upkeep of a yard.

What will the parking deck look like?
According to the plans for 250 housing units, the parking deck will accommodate more than 500 vehicles on three levels, enough to serve the businesses and homes. The parking deck is proposed in the center of the development, so the businesses and homes will largely block the view of the deck from the street. The parking deck will be required to have the same architectural design as the primary buildings.
What will happen to the old Main Street?
The old Main Street runs through the property. That section of road is currently closed and the right of way will be abandoned once the new Main Street opens.
