The Lilburn Police Department Citizens Police Academy is a 10-week program beginning on Tuesday, February 11, 2014. This program is designed to provide members of the Lilburn community with additional knowledge about their police department. It allows citizens to learn about police procedures and to experience first-hand the pressures associated with law enforcement.
Chief Bruce Hedley invites applicants from a diverse group of people who either live or work in the City of Lilburn. For more information or to apply, visit http://www.cityoflilburn.com/index.aspx?nid=281.
Chief Hedley said, “The objective of the Citizen Police Academy is not to train an individual to be a Reserve Police Officer, but to produce informed citizens. The Citizens and Police Officers meet each other face to face in a neutral, friendly setting, and each becomes a real person to the other. In the past, citizens have simply seen a uniform; now they can have an understanding about the person behind the badge. Without an active partnership between our citizens, business owners, and visitors alike, we would not succeed in our delivery of service to the community.”
