[ARCHIVED] June Citizen of the Month

memday2022

Jeff Hubright spent his early childhood in a fruit-farming community along the Lake Ontario shore in Western New York State. His father’s career brought the family South, with Georgia stops in Alma and Statesboro.

He and his family have lived in Lilburn 22 years and chose the community for its quality of life and diversity, an important factor at the time because two of their four adopted children are minorities.

If you were in City Park around 3 p.m. this Memorial Day, you may have heard Hubright perform Taps. Our observance was part of an annual  event called Taps Across America – The National Moment of Remembrance – in which Americans are asked, wherever they are at 3 p.m., to pause and reflect.

Hubright, a former Air Force weather officer, became a volunteer for Bugles Across America after he retired from Delta Air Lines in 2020. The non-profit ensures that Taps gets played at military funerals as a service to families.

And that’s why he’s our June Citizen of the Month.

“This volunteerism has turned out to be a wonderful blessing to me,” Hubright said. “I get invited into the families of veterans for whom I hold the upmost respect.”
