Scout Law: A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. As a former Scout, and briefly an adult leader, this statement of values is familiar and encouraging.
Occasionally, a Scout will attend a Lilburn City Council meeting, probably as a requirement for a merit badge on civic involvement. When I notice them, I ask them to take a public role by leading our Pledge of Allegiance.
They always are courteous and take the responsibility as a privilege.
Recently the Lilburn city family celebrated with Chief Bruce Hedley in the attainment of Eagle rank by his son, Bruce. Only 4% of young people in Scouting work through to this achievement. The eventual success of Eagle Scouts in their future lives is well known.
The less publicized success of Scouting may be the 96% who are involved with their families in adventure, fellowship, leadership, goal seeking and community improvements. Countless moms and dads have made lasting memories with their kids, while instilling the values of the Scout Law as reinforcement of their own family values.
I’m sure you are encouraged just by knowing that Scouting is active in the Lilburn community.
