[ARCHIVED] August Mayor's Corner: "Vision"

Mayor

There is a saying, “For lack of vision my people perish.”  I believe the reverse of that also is true. “People prosper when there is a vision.”
I believe Lilburn is prospering because of our vision. So how was our vision formed and put into action?
It’s a long story.
Our vision began years ago with elected officials and staff who positioned Lilburn to be financially stable and secure. Without their conservative approach, we would not have had a foundation to build upon. They might not have seen even the first steps that began the process, but they were open to possibilities.
As possibilities like the Greenway Trail were envisioned, citizens spoke regarding both their optimism and concerns for the ripple effects of what was then a huge step. Leaders listened and made decisions that eventually brought the trail as a major amenity of Lilburn. An amenity that attracted folks to the park. Which led to improvements in the Park that include a new playground, Agavero Cantina Parkside, new restrooms, a pavilion, splash pad and improved parking/lighting.
The potential of Old Town beyond City Park is being realized by the City’s partnership with the Downtown Development Authority. This board of citizens has claimed the vision of making Old Town a destination. This vision has resulted in numerous assemblages of properties that are destined for just that purpose.
Vision always is forward thinking.
We are optimistic about the process that has resulted in so many success stories for our town.
And we anticipate more such successes.
