Summers in Lilburn City Park are always memorable for the community. This past summer was exceptionally fun.
Our Splash Pad and adjacent Fitchett Pavilion gave families a gathering place to cool off and celebrate togetherness. The added shade sails over the benches were a plus. The five day a week operation of the water feature allowed us to maintain the facility in top notch shape during the other two days. A big "thank you" to our Park staff for their professional service.
The June 10 Rock the Park was a hit with the Elton Live Tribute Band. Some attendees said it was every bit as good as the real thing. Of course, the food trucks added just the right touch to make it a great night. Speaking of food trucks, June 13 came right on the heels of Rock the Park – Elton. As always there was music in the band shell for this as well. Brandon Crocker’s soft rock/acoustic set the tone for a laid-back evening.
Then the annual July 4 extravaganza – Sparkle in the Park. Glow Band hit a home run with so many of our favorite songs. They have become a tradition in Lilburn. There were a dozen food vendors, along with Agavero Parkside, providing every choice you could imagine. The fireworks were spectacular.
And then, what else but another Food Truck Tuesday on July 11. The hits just kept on coming. Kristin Tinsley performed a variety of music, some of which were her originals. The audience gave her ovation after ovation.
Did I mention Food Trucks?
Of course, Aug. 8 brought another set of fantastic trucks. Lilac Wine, another repeat crowd pleaser, was the musical feature of the night. An acoustic blend of voices and instruments for traditional and classic selections. The last big event of the summer were the opening band Black Lion Reggae [a fantastic people moving group] and A1A, the only official Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band. Their performance truly brought back memories for so many attendees. Due to this great band, Jimmy Buffett was fresh on our minds when he passed just a week later.
There’s more to come as we wind down the summer. Our Event Coordinator, Jill Minnoia and all the Park staff keep us well supplied with opportunities. I should have mentioned, be sure to save your ticket stubs for - just kidding! All these events were free.
Yet to come - Food Trucks Tuesday on Sept. 12 and Oct. 10. Lilburn Daze is the annual Lilburn Woman’s Club festival [this is the 51st one coming up] on Saturday, Oct. 14. This is always an exciting gathering for Lilburn and all who love the LWC. Check www.cityoflilburn.com for our calendar and additional information.
Privileged to work with such a team.
