The Lilburn Downtown Master Planning Project is a collaborative effort to guide the future growth, design, and development of Lilburn’s core areas. Through a week-long planning charrette held February 16–20, 2026, city leaders, planning experts, and community members worked together to explore ideas for strengthening downtown as a vibrant, walkable destination while preserving the character that makes Lilburn unique.
The project focuses on key areas including Old Town, Main Street, Lilburn City Park, the City Hall area, and the Lawrenceville Highway corridor. By examining streets, land use, connectivity, parks, and economic opportunities, the planning process aims to create a clear vision for how these spaces can evolve over time.
Goals of the master concept include supporting responsible growth, attracting high-quality businesses, improving traffic and connectivity, enhancing public spaces, and creating a downtown that serves residents, visitors, and future generations.
Below you’ll find resources and materials from the initial and final presentations that introduce the planning process and outline the foundation for this important community effort.
The Downtown Master Concept was presented to the Mayor and Council at the March 9, 2026 meeting. Because one council member was unable to attend, the Mayor and Council chose to table consideration of the plan until the April 13, 2026 meeting so that the full Council can participate in the discussion.
If the Mayor and Council choose to adopt the Downtown Master Concept, it would serve as a framework to guide future decision-making. Any elements of the plan would be considered in phases over time and reviewed through public meetings, and many would likely be evaluated as part of the City’s five-year Capital Improvement Plan process.
Community input remains an important part of this process. Residents are encouraged to share their thoughts and questions with the Mayor and Council as the conversation continues. As with all planning efforts, the ideas presented in the concept plan will be carefully analyzed and considered before any future action is taken.
How does this differ from the comprehensive plan?
While both planning efforts help guide Lilburn’s future, they serve different purposes:
Comprehensive Plan
• Covers the entire city
• Provides long-range guidance for land use, transportation, housing, and growth
• Helps inform future zoning and development decisions
Downtown Master Concept
• Focuses specifically on Old Town
• Explores design concepts, mobility, traffic flow, public spaces, and redevelopment opportunities
• Creates a shared vision for one specific area of the city
Together, these planning efforts work hand in hand — the Comprehensive Plan establishes the citywide framework, while the Downtown Master Concept explores ideas and opportunities specifically for Old Town Lilburn.
